Turkey's Meteorological Records for 2024 Announced
Last year, Turkey witnessed extreme weather conditions, with the highest temperature reaching 47.8 degrees Celsius in Şanlıurfa and the lowest temperature dropping to minus 34.3 degrees Celsius in Ardahan.
Hottest and Coldest Days of the Year
On June 20, the scorching heat peaked at 47.8 degrees Celsius in Ceylanpınar, Şanlıurfa, marking the hottest day of the year. In contrast, the coldest day was on Feb. 29, when temperatures plummeted to minus 34.3 degrees Celsius in Göle, Ardahan.
Extreme Rainfall and Snowpack Levels
The highest daily rainfall was observed on Feb. 13, with 297.7 kilograms per square meter in Kepez, Antalya. Meanwhile, the deepest snowpack of the year, measuring 247 centimeters, was recorded on March 6 at Karabet Hill in Bahçesaray, Van.
Record-Breaking Wind Speed
Trabzon experienced strong winds on Dec. 28, with wind speeds reaching a record 153.4 kph (95.3 mph), making it the fastest wind speed of the year.
Sea Surface Temperature Extremes
At the Karataş Fishing Shelter Main Breakwater Lighthouse Station in Adana, the highest sea surface temperature of 32.9 degrees Celsius was recorded on Aug. 15. Conversely, the lowest sea surface temperature of 7 degrees Celsius was measured on Jan. 22 at the Marmara Ereğlisi Fishing Shelter Breakwater Lighthouse Station.
