The Distinguished Guest Day of the Blue Homeland military exercise took place on Thursday at the Aksaz naval base in southwestern Türkiye. National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler oversaw the units participating in the exercise.

The exercise, which commenced on January 7 and is scheduled to conclude on January 16, involves naval forces conducting maneuvers in the Aegean, Eastern Mediterranean, and Black Seas.

In the early hours of Thursday, frigates set sail from the naval base in Marmaris, located near the Greek island of Rhodes, known for maritime border disputes with Türkiye. Among the vessels was the prominent Barbaros-class frigate, TCG Oruçreis.
Elite Naval Units in Action
During the exercise, the Underwater Defense Teams (SAS) showcased their skills by neutralizing a naval mine following a helicopter operation. Subsequently, Underwater Offense Teams (SAT) captured Yılancık Island near Marmaris, hoisting the Turkish flag.
Varied Naval Operations
Helicopters conducted bombardments on an island's coast, while corvettes TCG Burgaz and TCG Büyükada engaged in a supply mission. The exercise involved 90 naval vessels, 50 aircraft, and 20,000 military personnel.
