The Distinguished Guest Day of the Blue Homeland Military Exercise

The Distinguished Guest Day of the Blue Homeland military exercise took place on Thursday at the Aksaz naval base in southwestern Türkiye. National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler oversaw the units participating in the exercise.

Annual Naval Drill in Multiple Seas

The exercise, which commenced on January 7 and is scheduled to conclude on January 16, involves naval forces conducting maneuvers in the Aegean, Eastern Mediterranean, and Black Seas.

Maneuvers and Operations

In the early hours of Thursday, frigates set sail from the naval base in Marmaris, located near the Greek island of Rhodes, known for maritime border disputes with Türkiye. Among the vessels was the prominent Barbaros-class frigate, TCG Oruçreis.

Elite Naval Units in Action

During the exercise, the Underwater Defense Teams (SAS) showcased their skills by neutralizing a naval mine following a helicopter operation. Subsequently, Underwater Offense Teams (SAT) captured Yılancık Island near Marmaris, hoisting the Turkish flag.

Varied Naval Operations

Helicopters conducted bombardments on an island's coast, while corvettes TCG Burgaz and TCG Büyükada engaged in a supply mission. The exercise involved 90 naval vessels, 50 aircraft, and 20,000 military personnel.

Significance of the Blue Homeland Doctrine

The Blue Homeland doctrine, focusing on Türkiye's maritime interests and rights, has garnered attention amid efforts to resolve disputes with Greece. The exercise aims to display Türkiye's naval capabilities and commitment to maritime security.

Türkiye's Advancements in Defense Industry

Türkiye's development of an independent defense industry, highlighted by advanced UAVs and domestically produced warships, signifies a strategic shift in its maritime defense posture. The navy's modernization efforts contribute to regional stability.

Indigenous Naval Projects

Recent milestones include the commissioning of indigenous warships like TCG Heybeliada and plans for new submarines. The country's defense industry achievements, such as the ADVENT combat management system, enhance naval operational capabilities.

Future Naval Projects

Türkiye's submarine projects, including the Piri Reis class, demonstrate ongoing efforts to bolster its naval fleet. With upcoming submarine commissions scheduled, Türkiye aims to further strengthen its naval presence in the region.
