Istanbul Breaks Tourism Records in the First 5 Months of the Year
One of the major hubs of world tourism, Istanbul broke records in both the month of May and the 5-month period by hosting 6,923,768 foreign visitors.
Significant Increase in Foreign Visitors
According to the data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the number of foreign visitors to Istanbul in the first 5 months of the year increased by 10.31% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Top Countries Visiting Istanbul in May
In May, Russia led the way with 176,702 visitors to Istanbul, followed by Germany with 140,214, the USA with 90,318, and Iran with 84,587. The UK, France, and Saudi Arabia also contributed significantly to the visitor numbers.
First Choice: Istanbul Airport
During May, Istanbul Airport was the top choice for foreign visitors coming to Istanbul, with 1,198,723 arrivals. 72.85% of all foreign visitors arrived in Istanbul via Istanbul Airport.
Increased Number of Foreign Visitors via Air Travel
In May, the number of foreign visitors arriving in Istanbul via air travel increased by 12.09% compared to the same month in 2023, reaching a total of 1,645,423.
April Occupancy Rate at 51.47%
According to the latest accommodation statistics released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the number of arrivals at certified facilities in April reached a total of 1,129,657.
With 2,499,143 nights spent in these facilities, the occupancy rate of accommodation facilities in Istanbul was determined to be 51.47% in April.
