Türkiye's Highest Mountain Training Ground for Search and Rescue Operations
AĞRI - Mount Ağrı, known as the tallest peak in Türkiye, has become a focal point for various training programs aimed at enhancing the skills of the country's numerous search and rescue teams.
Challenging Terrain for Skill Development
Located in the eastern part of the country, Mount Ağrı boasts an elevation of 5,137 meters, offering a rugged landscape where teams participate in simulated drills to improve their capabilities.
Enhancing Reaction Times and Proficiency
Training sessions focus on search strategies, rapid deployment post alerts, and aim to refine response times, ultimately enhancing the teams' effectiveness in conducting search and rescue missions during high-altitude emergencies.
Demonstrating Intervention Capacity
Fikret Deniz, a regional official from Türkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), expressed the importance of showcasing the teams' competency in managing high-altitude operations not only domestically but also on a global scale.
Preparation for Extreme Conditions
The training drills aim to familiarize the teams with the challenges of conducting rescue missions on Mount Ağrı, ensuring they are well-prepared to navigate the demanding conditions the mountain presents.
Duration and Participants
The training program, which began on December 17 with 90 participants, is scheduled to continue in intervals until February 2025.
Continuous Skill Advancement
In addition to the ongoing training, further exercises and drills are planned to advance the mountaineering skills of the teams and enhance their operational readiness.

Recently, two siblings from Belarus who went missing during a hiking expedition in the central province of Niğde were successfully rescued after an extensive search effort spanning several days.
