Moldovan Citizens Brought from Russia to Participate in Elections
Around 150 Moldovan citizens have been transported from Russia to Moldova in preparation for the upcoming presidential election's second round scheduled for November 3. According to reports, three buses carrying Moldovan citizens who had flown from Moscow to Istanbul free of charge arrived at the Cahul-Oancha checkpoint on the night of November 2.
Unusual Transportation Route
Customs Service and Border Police sources revealed that the Moldovan citizens were flown from Moscow to Istanbul for free before boarding buses with Moldovan license plates bound for Bulgaria. Upon arrival in Bulgaria, the passengers were transferred to buses owned by a local company, which took them to the Cahul-Oancha border crossing.
Free Transportation Offered for Election Participation
Customs officers discovered that the passengers had not paid for their airfare or transportation, as they were informed in Russia that free transportation was arranged for those interested in returning to Moldova to participate in the presidential election's second round.
Presidential Election Details
The incumbent President Maia Sandu, seeking re-election, secured 42.45% of the votes in the first round, while the Socialist Party candidate Alexandru Stoianoglo received 25.98%. The second round of the presidential election is set to take place on November 3 in Moldova.
