Diplomatic Relations Between Türkiye and Switzerland Celebrate 100th Anniversary

Historical Significance of the Treaty of Lausanne
In an interview with Anadolu Agency (AA), Ambassador Incesu emphasized the historical importance of the Treaty of Lausanne in shaping the relationship between Türkiye and Switzerland. The roots of this relationship date back to the Ottoman Empire’s consulate in Geneva in 1898 and the establishment of an embassy in Bern in 1915.
Plans for Commemorative Activities
As 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the Friendship Treaty signed in 1925, Ambassador Incesu announced plans for various commemorative activities to celebrate the centenary, aiming to highlight a century of friendship and cooperation while laying the foundation for future collaborations.
Strong Economic Ties and Investments
Ambassador Incesu pointed out the robust economic ties between the two countries, with bilateral trade reaching $4-4.5 billion annually, excluding gold. Swiss investments in Türkiye have soared to $8.6 billion, while Turkish investments in Switzerland surpass $900 million.

Highlighting the importance of advancements in science, innovation, and technology, Ambassador Incesu stressed the opportunities for deeper collaboration between Türkiye and Switzerland in these fields. By prioritizing young talent, both countries can create added value for future investments.
