California State Senator Accused of Forcing Chief of Staff into Sex-based Quid Pro Quo Relationship
A lawsuit filed last week alleges that California State Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil, who recently switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party, forced her chief of staff, Chad Condit, into a "sex-based quid pro quo relationship" that resulted in various bodily injuries.
Allegations of Sexual Harassment and Retaliation
Chad Condit filed a civil lawsuit in Sacramento Superior Court, accusing Alvarado-Gil of sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and violations of state labor laws. He claimed that the senator was an "erratic" and "controlling" boss who abused her power over him in a sexually dominating manner.
Claims of Unwelcome Advances and Punishment
The lawsuit describes the relationship as involving unwelcome advances and sexual behaviors paired with punishment and the misuse of power. Condit alleges that during their final encounter, Alvarado-Gil forced him to perform oral sex in a car seat, resulting in severe injuries including three herniated discs and a collapsed hip.
Retaliation and Termination
Condit asserts that after refusing further advances due to his injuries, Alvarado-Gil retaliated by accusing him of inappropriate behavior and ultimately firing him in December. Despite undergoing surgery on his hip, Condit claims he was unjustly dismissed from his position.
Denial of Allegations by Senator's Attorney
Senator Alvarado-Gil's attorney, Ognian Gavrilov, refuted the claims, labeling them as fabricated and financially motivated. The senator denies any wrongdoing and is fully cooperating with the investigation.
California State Senate's Response
The California State Senate, also named in the lawsuit, stated that they are in discussions with legal counsel to determine the next steps. While taking all complaints seriously, the Senate refrained from commenting on ongoing litigation.
Letting the Judicial Process Take Its Course
Jacqui Nguyen, press secretary for the California Senate Republican Caucus, emphasized the need to allow the judicial process to unfold regarding the allegations against Senator Alvarado-Gil. All inquiries were directed to the Senate Rules Committee as the case progresses.
